Serpent of the Moat – Tracey Cartledge

Serpent of the Moat

Palacefields Moat Project

Local historians discovered that the local ‘swamp’ was in fact part of an ancient moat, right in the middle of the Riverside Estate in Palacefields, Runcorn, Cheshire. My commission involved working with pupils from two local primary schools to dream up a story to explain its survival and create a sculpture for the site. The result was the “Serpent of the Moat”, a cast concrete creature now nestled permanently in the shallows of the moat.
