Vehicular & Pedestrian Gates

Tracey invited artists Ann Gilligan and Kim Boyle to work with her on this project to produce a set of vehicular and pedestrian gates for the entrance to Lowry High School.

The theme for the project was 'journeys', inspired by the school building - whose shape has similarities to an ocean liner. This idea was developed in workshops with a select group of twelve pupils, who were asked to consider that being in the school provided for them a journey into their own future.

An exciting programme of creative activities culminated in the design which was then laser cut from mild steel and welded together by a local fabricator. The pupils were taken to the fabricator's workshop to see this process and some of them tried their hand at welding.
